To whoever may be reading this, hello, my name is Caleb Morrill, and I'm the creator of Riposte. This has been my passion project for the last few years, where I've worked on and off as I've had time while pursuing my degree. I started playing TTRPGs in 2020 during my freshman year of college, mostly online due to the circumstances at the time, and have been the GM for most of it.

The creative in me quickly fell in love with the potential these games have at telling stories with a legitimate social element, and the analytical side all the numbers and mechanics to engage with. Despite this, I found my first system (D&D 5e) to be lacking a lot of elements I would want to see from the game. Other systems generally managed to get a lot closer to what I wanted, they each still seemed to either lack something I wanted, or else focus on aspects of the medium I disliked, in ways which would have been time consuming to correct. Rather than spend the time modifying someone else's system, and likewise try to convince my playgroup to learn not only it but my own modifications, I decided to make my own. This coincided with me starting to flesh out my own setting for future games, and ultimately the two become very tied to one another.

The system has changed a lot over the years, and is almost unrecognizable from my initial rules outline. As I modified and honed the rules, it became less of a fun diversion and more of a serious project. I've taught myself quite a few skills in the pursuit of trying to achieve the vision I have for the game. This includes some limited publishing techniques, basic webdesign for the site you are on now, and illustration (though admittedly this is not my strong suit). Aside from my playgroup helping test rules and provide feedback, I've been the sole contributor to the project. While this has been creatively liberating and allowed me to create something as close to my vision as possible, it has been taxing, both in terms of time and attention. I do hope that some day I will be able to credit others here (to be clear, my playgroup did wish for anonymity).

The system you see now has followed me for a long time, all the way from an idea near the start of my higher education, all the way to the initial stages being nearly complete alongside me starting a PhD program. I have much more planned to come, and would appreciate if you decide try the game for yourself. I hope you enjoy playing it as much as I have making it, thank you.
